Western Regional Jail Custody
Western Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is a WVDCR regional jail, not a Mason County sheriff-operated jail. It serves Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln, Putnam, and Mason counties, so a person arrested in Mason County may be moved to Barboursville for booking, housing, non-contact visitation, and jail release processing. The Mason County Sheriff may make an arrest or transport a prisoner, but the public custody record for a held person is maintained through West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation systems.
The facility holds pretrial felony and misdemeanor defendants as well as sentenced jail inmates. Pretrial means the criminal case is still pending and a court has not entered a final conviction and sentence. Sentenced jail custody is different from state prison custody. If a Mason County case results in a state prison sentence, the person may leave the regional jail system and appear in the WVDCR prison locator instead. That split is the main reason a Western Regional Jail search can miss someone who was once booked there but has since moved.
Facility type: Regional jail records are searched through WVDCR jail tools. Sentenced prison records are searched through the separate WVDCR prison locator.
Western Regional Jail Population
The WVDCR FY2025 annual report lists Western Regional Jail with a rated population of 576. That source also describes the facility as jail detention for pretrial and sentenced felony and misdemeanor populations from its service counties. The figure is a rated population, not a promise that the same number of people are in custody on a given day. Actual custody totals can shift as arrests, bond orders, court hearings, releases, and transfers occur.
For Mason County readers, the key point is scope. Western Regional Jail is the primary jail facility serving Mason County, but it is also a multi-county facility. A daily admissions list can include people from several counties. A Mason County jail roster search should therefore use the person name, the county dropdown when using Daily Incarcerations, and the facility name when checking admissions by institution.
Western Regional Jail Lookup
Use the WVDCR Regional Jail Offender Search for a current regional jail inmate. Use Daily Incarcerations when the arrest is recent or when the name search does not yet show a clear result. Daily Incarcerations can be searched by county and can also show admissions by institution. WVDCR states that jail information is updated regularly, but it can change quickly and should be checked against court or facility records when accuracy matters.
- Open the WVDCR jail search for regional jail custody, or open Daily Incarcerations for same-day booking checks.
- Enter at least the first three letters of the last name. Add the first name when it is known.
- Complete the captcha, then compare the result by name, birth date, gender, custody location, and admission details.
- If the person was sentenced to state prison, switch to the WVDCR Prison Offender Search instead of the jail search.
- If neither WVDCR search finds the person, use VINE for notifications and check federal or immigration locators only when that type of custody is possible.
| Search Tool | Use It For | Important Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Regional Jail Offender Search | Current WVDCR regional jail inmates | Last name is required and captcha must be completed. |
| Daily Incarcerations | Recent admissions by county or institution | Admission rows may not show every profile field. |
| WVDCR Prison Offender Search | Sentenced prison custody, supervision, or parole status | Discharged people and non-WVDCR custody are excluded. |
Western Regional Jail Contact
The facility's main number is the best starting point for custody confirmation, visitor entry questions, and facility-specific directions. WVDCR lists Carl Aldridge as superintendent. The official directions place the jail off Interstate 64 near Exit 18, with the route continuing onto Old Guyan River Road and O'Hanlon Place. The facility page does not publish visitor parking rates, public transit details, or ADA entrance notes, so those details should be confirmed before travel.

Western Regional Jail Visits
Western Regional Jail uses non-contact visitation. Walk-in visitation is not available. To request a slot, call the visitation line on the designated scheduling days between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Calls continue only until slots are filled. Each adult visitor should be ready to provide date of birth, phone number, address, driver's license number, and driver's license expiration date. Rules can change due to staffing, lockdown, holidays, or court security needs, so confirm the visit before leaving Mason County.

Western Regional Jail Services
WVDCR mail rules use a central scanned-mail address, not the street address of Western Regional Jail. Mail must include the inmate's first and last name, OID number, the full facility name without abbreviations, and the Phoenix, Maryland post office box. WVDCR says envelopes must have a complete sender return address with first and last name. Photographs, attachments, enclosures, and letters addressed to more than one offender can cause mail to be returned.
Phone, video, and money services are also statewide WVDCR services. WVDCR calling and video information names GettingOut as the contracted provider. WVDCR banking information lists ConnectNetwork deposits by phone, web, or mobile app. The research did not locate Mason-specific commissary limits or a separate fee schedule, so current deposit costs and account rules should be checked with the provider and the facility.
| Service | Provider or Detail | Use Carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate name and OID, full facility name, PO Box 336, Phoenix, MD 21131 | Use the full facility name and a complete return address. | |
| Phone and video | GettingOut | Set up accounts through the provider and confirm availability. |
| Deposits | ConnectNetwork by phone at 888.988.4768, web, or app | Confirm fees and posting time before sending funds. |
| Packages | WVDCR services index links offender package resources | Package rules can differ from scanned mail rules. |
Western Regional Jail Booking
A Mason County arrest does not mean the person is housed in a Point Pleasant county jail. Once detention is required, custody may move into Western Regional Jail. Booking and intake can include identity checks, property intake, medical screening, classification, bond information, and a housing decision. Classification is the jail's process for deciding where a person can be housed based on safety, security, health, charge status, and court orders.
Daily Incarcerations is useful for very recent arrests because it can show same-day admission rows. The sample admissions table inspected in the research displayed admission time, last name, first name, middle name, birth date, and gender, plus a link to view details. It did not show a booking photo in that admissions table. For broader Mason County jail roster help, the Jail Inmate Records page explains the custody search chain across jail, court, state prison, federal, and immigration systems.
Western Regional Jail Limits
Western Regional Jail is the correct starting point for regional jail custody, but it is not the correct source for every Mason County inmate search. Lakin Correctional Center and Jail is physically in Mason County, but it is a state prison for sentenced female offenders and specialized WVDCR operations. A sentenced woman housed there should be searched through the WVDCR prison locator, not the regional jail search. Federal custody is different again, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System should be used only when the case involves federal prison or immigration detention.
West Virginia VINE can help when the goal is notification rather than repeated manual searching. VINE does not replace the jail search, the prison search, or direct contact with the facility, but it can notify registered users about custody and case events where available. If a court record conflicts with a jail record, use the court with jurisdiction for the criminal case outcome and use WVDCR for the custody location.
Note: Confirm custody, visitation, and release information with Western Regional Jail before travel or payment decisions.
