Western Regional Jail Custody

Western Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is a WVDCR regional jail, not a Mason County sheriff-operated jail. It serves Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln, Putnam, and Mason counties, so a person arrested in Mason County may be moved to Barboursville for booking, housing, non-contact visitation, and jail release processing. The Mason County Sheriff may make an arrest or transport a prisoner, but the public custody record for a held person is maintained through West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation systems.

The facility holds pretrial felony and misdemeanor defendants as well as sentenced jail inmates. Pretrial means the criminal case is still pending and a court has not entered a final conviction and sentence. Sentenced jail custody is different from state prison custody. Western Regional Jail Visits

Western Regional Jail uses non-contact visitation. Walk-in visitation is not available. To request a slot, call the visitation line on the designated scheduling days between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Calls continue only until slots are filled. Each adult visitor should be ready to provide date of birth, phone number, address, driver's license number, and driver's license expiration date. Rules can change due to staffing, lockdown, holidays, or court security needs, so confirm the visit before leaving Mason County.

Western Regional Jail Limits

Lakin Correctional Center and Jail is physically in Mason County, but it is a state prison for sentenced female offenders and specialized WVDCR operations. A sentenced woman housed there should be searched through the WVDCR prison locator, not the regional jail search.
